Making mistakes creates unexpected drama.

In today’s workshop, I made a mistake and brought different kind of ingredients to the workshop… Not knowing that I have made a mistake, I kept my workshop going but the dough didn’t come out as great as it should be. When I was wondering why it’s not working, one of my student saw package of the ingredients, and pointed out that t’s not the one on my recipe. Then he ran out of the venue to buy the ingredient from supermarket, and other students have waited for the udon to be ready without making reluctant look even though it took long.

At the moment, “mistake” only looks like “mistake”, but after the moment, with some feeling of apology, I start to think that it was a wonderful opportunity to be able to get in touch with Thai people’s kindness. I was touched by their warmth.I felt like students and I were much closer with this kind of accident. It could be something I could not have felt if I didn't make a mistake. There are so many times to confront “mistakes” along my journey and they hurt at the moment, but I enjoy making mistakes.

最近よく思いますが、失敗は最高のドラマを生むと思います。

今回はうどんのワークショップに持って行く粉を間違えて準備してしまうという失敗をしました・・・それに気づかずうどんワークショップが進行していくのですが、どうしても生地がうまくまとまらない・・・いつも通りやっているのに原因不明の事態に困惑していると、これは説明していた粉と違うものだよ！と参加者に指摘され気づき、自分のバカさ加減に落胆。するとすかさず、一名の参加者「今から買ってくる！」と、駆け足で必要材料を買い出しにいってくれ、長い時間かかったにも関わらず本来のうどんができるのを皆さん嫌な顔一切せず待っていてくれました。

こんな失敗物語も瞬間的には落ち込むのですが、よくよく考えると、反省はありつつも「タイの方々の優しさに触れられた素晴らしい体験だったな」とか思います。皆さんの温かさに心打たれました。失敗なしで進行していた時よりも、参加者との距離が近づいたようにも感じました。失敗なしで進んでいたら、感じられなかったことかもしれません。旅していると挑戦が多いので失敗に直面することだからけなわけなので、失敗も楽しんでます。
